Workin' For the Weekend
Normally, I wouldn't blog about our weekend itinerary--at least not until it actually happened, and it was especially rockin' or there were some fun pictures to share. I think I feel the need to do it now because I'm surrounded by huge under advisement files--one of which is on an absolutely awful tax issue, and the one thing getting me through is the thought of leaving this all behind for the holiday weekend.
Saturday we'll be putting our kayaks on the water for the first time at my namesake--Sherando Lake. I'm uBer pumped about it, especially considering that Puppers will be boarded for the weekend, so we don't have to worry about packing her up, sitting in the relegated "dog owner" areas (which suck), etc. She totally digs Pets and Play so it'll be like a mini-vacation for her, too. There are plans for an awesome picnic involving cold fried chicken and macaroni salad, and the possibility that we might be able to meet up with Mandy (who by the way is moving to Portland in July--and I'm so stoked for her!!!). Perhaps we'll even splurge for dinner out in Cville on the way home?
Sunday I am jumping-out-of-my-pants (don't look) happy because we're going to go see Prince Caspian--I've been itching to see it, and even though I anticipated its release date (one week ago) for months, I hate seeing a movie right when it comes out--gotta wait until the hype dies down a bit. Sunday night we've got reservations at Verbena--which is going to be very swank--it's the official wedding anniversary celebration dinner. I'll post a review of it afterward--there's been a lot of great buzz about it, so we'll see!
Not sure what we'll be doing for Memorial Day--I'm hoping for a late breakfast out, relaxing in the sun and hopefully swatching the mittens I want to get started on next week. No matter what happens, it's going to be so nice to have a day off--and Hubster gets the day too, so I'm looking forward that time together.
Just as an aside, I keep getting made fun of by my knitting friends for make wool/winter stuff right now. I don't get it. What's the big deal? Season-appropriate fibers include but are not limited to cottons and linens (and possibly hemp)--and I only use those to make warshrags and hand towels--and who wants to spend a whole summer making those? They go straight into the new-house-stash anyway. Besides, making scarves and comfy hats and mittens is super-fun right now, because it isn't like I'm knitting on a deadline (which I hate), and I get to look forward to wearing all that stuff as soon as it gets nippy out. Not only THAT, but I'm usually freezing cold anyway (my hands are always like ice cubes), so whether we're talking about February temps or air conditioning, it's always a good time for some merino. So, I'm gonna rock on with my mitten-knitting--and I'm honestly pretty excited to wear them around the house--in June.
