A few nights ago Salmaan and I had our first grumpy frogfest--together. I had to frog my Koolhaas. Somewhere along the line I messed up the cables (and only on ONE side of the hat, what's up with that?) and being the perfectionist that I am, I couldn't keep going knowing that the beautiful diamond pattern would be marred with mistakes--even if it was just on one side. However, I wasn't at ALL happy about it.
I love the Koolhaas hat. Knitting it? Not as much fun as I had hoped. It's just such a fiddly pattern, and even cabling without a cable needle, it's more time-consuming than I had anticipated. The GOOD news is that Salmaan tried on what I had knit so far, and it was way too snug on him. So, at least I know that when I cast this on again, I'm going to go up a needle-size. Better than completing a hat that he can't wear, right?
Salmaan had his own froggy demons to deal with. His first project ever. It was an....ummm....well, it was his first project. It started out as a scarf, but somewhere along the way he cast it on again while I wasn't around, and may have made it a little bit wider than necessary.
Okay, it's a table runner. But even though we were grumpy, we did have a good laugh, and it wasn't anything a good glass of wine couldn't cure--old vine zin to be exact. I think he's going to cast this on again, but knit it from the side like the Taran Wanderer scarf. He really liked how that one came out. As for me, I'm going to take a little break from the Koolhaas, and get back to my sweater this week. It's starting to get cool out, and I want to wear it!

Congratulations to Salmaan for his first project ever! And I bet the Koolhaas will look excellent when it's finished (in the larger size) ... at least I hope so, cuz I'm planning to make one for big-headed hubby sometime!

Those pictures are both so adorable. What facial expressions! I intend to start Koolhaas eventually, and was considering casting on this week for a quick break from J's sweater of doom. However, maybe I'll choose something quicker now that I've seen your post. Thanks!

Is it really bad that I laughed while reading your narrative of Salmaan's extra wide scarf and looking at the photo. I couldn't stop laughing...but it wasn't in a bad way! :o)
Frogging sucks though.
