The first time I saw this hat in Katherine's finished objects gallery on Ravelry, I knew that there would be many of these in my future. Betwixt a hectic schedule full of shopping and planning, I was finally able to sit down on Saturday evening for a sustained period and knit this bad boy up. In researching the pattern, numerous other Ravelers had commented that it only took them a few hours to finish this nifty cap. I sat down at 7:00 p.m., totally motivated by the possibility of having an FO in just that amount of time. Alas, I wove in the ends at 11:30 p.m., but it was all worth it. I had to stay up that late to put some steel cut oats in the slow-cooker for Sunday morning's breakfast, anyway.
There is just enough lace (rows 9-29) to keep the pattern interesting and fun--and the lace is super-simple. I did not add any more rows than the 13 called for in the pattern after the lace, and the hat still fits quite nicely over my ears.
I also enjoy the spiral decreases, they add a touch of elegance to the non-patterned portion of the hat.
I had to go into our "box room" as I'm now calling Salmaan's study, to fish out the yarn I used to make this. I used Malabrigo Merino Worsted (yes--yet ANOTHER skein--you have no idea how much of this stuff I have in my stash), the colorway is Garnet. Still a tighter knitter, I used #8 16' circulars. The pattern may be found here--thanks for such a wonderful, free pattern, Jodi!!!! *sigh* I love one-day FO's.....ESPECIALLY around the holidays! *hint hint*

So pretty! I really should make myself a hat out of my lone skein of malabrigo chunky. It just begs to be worn over the ears, being so soft!
