Back in March Salmaan decided he wanted to get me an iPad for my birthday (and of course, I had no complaints about that)! On the weekend iPad 2 came out, we went to Best Buy to purchase one. (We had a bunch of rewards dollars to use, making Best Buy our vendor of choice). They were sold out, but informed us that we could be placed on a waiting list for the model we wanted if we purchased a $100 Best Buy gift card (that we could put towards our purchase later if we wanted). We did that. Every month, we called, and were told that their policy was that we could not be informed of where we were on the list, but that inventory was limited, and folks on the list were the only ones getting iPads from Best Buy. WELL, last week, Salmaan called Apple, and was informed that there were no longer any inventory issues with iPad 2, as processors were being made in factories not affected by the tsunami disaster. Salmaan called Best Buy corporate in NYC to check inventory at our local store (where we had paid to be on a priority waiting list). Note that he resorted to calling Corporate after being on hold for over an HOUR for our local store. Even Corporate couldn't get that store to answer the phone. Well, guess what? That store had plenty of IPad 2's, in the model we had reserved. We were informed that a majority if the iPad inventory was NOT going to folks who were on a priority waiting list, but instead was being saved for floor inventory. So after waiting for 4 months, we finally were able to reserve a "floor inventory" iPad, upon which I am now typing this post.
I'm thrilled to have those machine, but am hoping that folks who are on a waiting list will find this post and know that it's a complete crock. Bad form, Best Buy!!!
